Prime Minister Narendra Modi took pride in recalling India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph while addressing a crowd of enthusiastic Indians in Moscow on Tuesday during his two-day visit to Russia. PM Modi shared the ‘asli story’ of India’s memorable triumph, saying the cricket team’s success reflects the never-say-die attitude of young Indians.
India won the T20 World Cup on Saturday, June 29 in Barbados after beating South Africa in a thrilling final. India, at one point, were in trouble when South Africa needed just 30 runs in the last deliveries while chasing 177 on a good batting pitch at Kensington Oval. However, Rohit Sharma and his men did not throw in the towel and fought until the last delivery was bowled. The pace-bowling trio of Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh stepped up in the last five overs and choked the run flow to help India win by 7 runs and script history.
“You all must have celebrated India’s T20 World Cup victory. Did you? Or did you not? Were you all proud or not? There is a real story and a road towards the World Cup triumph. Today’s youth and the youth of India do not give up till the last ball and last moment. The victory kisses those feet who are not ready to give up. The feeling is not just limited to cricket but is also evident in other sports,” as the Indian diaspora cheered the popular leader.
Notably, the Prime Minister hosted the victorious Indian team for breakfast in New Delhi after Rohit Sharma nad his men returned home from Tornado-hit Barbados. PM Modi congratulated the cricketers and Meanwhile, PM Modi also expressed confidence that India will do well at the upcoming Paris Olympics, starting July 26.
“The Indian athletes have produced historic performances at the international level. This time in the Paris Olympics as well, a great team is going who will represent India. It will be great to watch how the entire team from different ethnicities will produce stellar performances. The self-belief of the young India is the real treasure of the country,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi’s two-day visit to Russia is his first trip to the European nation after securing a third term. Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed PM Modi late on Monday and toured him around his residence outside Moscow.
