Australia announced their white-ball squads for the tour of the United Kingdom in September, giving a glimpse of their teams for the future. With David Warner calling it quits from white-ball cricket, Australia picked young opener Jake Fraser-McGurk in the T20I squad for the first time. Meanwhile, Test captain Pat Cummins was rested for the white-ball tour, keeping in mind the 5-match Border-Gavaskar Test series against Australia, starting in November.
Mitchell Marsh will continue to lead the white-ball teams as the selectors have backed the all-rounder to continue despite the disappointment of the T20 World Cup. Western Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly has been picked in the T20I squad. The 20-year-old left-hander, who has impressed in the finisher’s role over the last two seasons, has been picked ahead of Matthew Wade, who has been left out after the T20 World Cup. Wade and Ashton Agar are the ones who played in the World Cup but have been ignored for the T20I series against Scotland and England.
Australia will begin their UK tour with a three-match T20I series against Scotland from September 4 to 7. The team will then play 3 T20Is against England from September 11 to 15 before they face their arch-rivals in five ODIs from September 19 to 29.
Australia have rested their pace spearheads Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins for the T20I series, while Steve Smith doesn’t find a place. However, the three big guns along with Alex Carey, Marnus Labuschagne and Sean Abbott will join the ODI squad in the UK after the T20I leg of the tour.
